What Does IGY6 Mean?
IGY6 stands for "I Got Your Six" — military slang for "I've got your back." Simple as that. The number six comes from clock-position language: six o'clock is directly behind you, your blind spot, the angle you can't cover alone. When someone says IGY6, they're making a promise. You're covered.
Where It Comes From
Fighter pilots used clock positions to call out threats in combat — twelve o'clock straight ahead, six o'clock directly behind. Your six was the most dangerous position because it was the one you couldn't see. A wingman covering your six meant you could move forward without watching your back.
From the cockpit it moved into ground combat. From there it moved into veteran culture, military families, first responders — anywhere people understand that some battles aren't meant to be fought alone.
What About ;IGY6?
The semicolon in front comes from the mental health awareness movement — it represents a sentence the author could have ended but chose to continue. Paired with IGY6, the message is direct: your story isn't over, and you don't finish it alone. You'll see ;IGY6 worn especially in connection with veteran suicide prevention.
Who Can Wear It?
Anyone who means it. Active duty, veterans, first responders, military families, patriots who stand with the people who serve. You don't need a DD-214. You need to mean the promise.
"Patriotism isn't a post. It's a practice."
